Philosateleia's distance from Earth, as well as a general culture of non-aggression, essentially eliminates the need for a military. Space debris constitutes the primary need for some form of global defense.
Global Defense System
The Father's Brother's Nephew's Cousin's Former Roommate of Spaceballs Global Defense System (FBNCFRSGDS) protects Philosateleia from asteroids and other pieces of debris that have the potential to be hazardous if they enter the atmosphere. The FBNCFRSGDS has successfully prevented any large objects from reaching Philosateleia's surface.
The FBNCFRSGDS is comprised of a complex network of man-made satellites and control hubs located around the globe, with the command center located a short distance outside of Philatelic City. In the event that a force field is deemed insufficient to deflect an incoming object, the Philosateleian Defense Force is called up to deal with the threat.
Philosateleian Defense Force
The Philosateleian Defense Force (PDF) is staffed by a small group of pilots trained specifically to deal with the threats posed by space debris. The five squadrons use the PDF Firefly Fighters, which have received widespread acclaim for their speed and maneuverability both in space and in the atmosphere. The heavier PDF Baboon Bomber is used to break larger space rocks into manageable chunks that can be deflected or destroyed.
The PDF is forbidden to engage in any military activity.
